“Nurture the soil, keep the soil moist and talk to your plants. They’ll respond in a beautiful way with many new leaves.”
Taniel Colbeich Kurtz, 34, Brazilian
São Paulo, Brasil
Taniel is a barista with three favourite plants:
- Philodendron melanochrysum
Taniel enjoys seeing the smaller leaves change from red copper to lush green. They reach 25cm or more in size and form the shape of a heart. - Philodendron gloriosum
The velvety leaves are what most draws Taniel’s attention to this plant. - Philodendron spiritus-sancti
One of Taniel’s rarest plants because it is no longer found in nature. It was last seen in 2000, an endemic of the municipality of Domingos Martins, Brazil.
Taniel says: “I like to watch my plants while I drink coffee and listen to songs that I like. Music makes me feel good and I believe that for them too. Like the tattoos scattered throughout my body, each plant has a story in my life independent of the moment. Mark the skin or acquire a plant and always a new story. My work is an inspiration, many scents and tastes. To know that a plant provides such an exotic drink, able to gather or even make new friends, coffee and something important in my life.”
