“Do not be devastated if you kill one, two or a couple plants, it happens. Learn from your mistakes, move on and buy more plants!!!”

When Christopher isn’t managing ÉduQue|e|r Trainings, an LGBTQ/Social Justice Education and Training company, he’s attending to his plants. Here are his three favourites and how he keeps them thriving:

  • Sansevieria masoniana
Try to make sure this low maintenance plant gets medium to bright ambient light. Water it once every week and make sure the soil has dried out completely and they’ll thrive.
  • Monstera deliciosa
Mist every other day and keep the soil moderately moist by placing them in the shower and letting the water run through the soil completely.
  • Pilea peperomioides
Place them in a window that gets 45 mins to 1 hour of direct light and bright ambient light for the rest of the day. Keep the soil neither too wet or too dry. They also respond quickly to the sunlight and lean towards the light so rotate them every 1 to 2 weeks to keep them from slanting.

Christopher says: “The tip I would share is that plant care really depends on the environment you are growing them in. I have found that some plant care tips I have read for certain plants don’t work for my plants, and that I have to pay attention to how my plants are responding to my care and adjust.”
